Auchinleck is a village in East Ayrshire just 2 miles north west of Cumnock. It is dominated by Auchinleck House and Estate, home of the Laird of Auchinleck, and held its own race meeting in the 19th century. The course, on the edge of the estate, staged racing on Wednesday 14th November 1860 when the feature race was the Auchinleck Cup which was won by Mr Hyslop’s Harvest Home. A second race for the Cumnock Purse was won by Mr Somerville’s Needle who beat Kate McCluskey. There are no further records of racing of note taking place in the village. |
